Specialized Therapy for the High-Achieving Manhattan Beach Mom
Support For Moms Who Are Ready To Feel Better During Pregnancy + Postpartum β¨
In an environment that demands elite performanceβfrom Silicon Beach boardrooms to the South Bay paceβyou arenβt failing; you are paying a Perfectionism Tax.
It is time to stop white-knuckling the mental load and implement a tactical framework that protects your identity.
Postpartum Therapy for Manhattan Beach Moms Who Are Holding Everything Together β Barely
You live steps from the ocean. From the outside, things look beautiful β and maybe they are, in some ways. But postpartum depression and anxiety don't care about the view from your porch or how well-put-together your life looks on paper. If you're a new mom in Manhattan Beach and something feels off since having your baby β the exhaustion that sleep won't fix, the anxiety that hums underneath everything, the feeling that you've disappeared into the role of "mom" and lost the person you were β this is the right place.
Whether you're navigating pregnancy, or you're postpartum and something feels off β I work with California moms at exactly this crossroads. Hi Iβm Alexa, licensed therapist, mom of two and founder of Therapy For California Moms. I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) specializing in maternal mental health, and I offer virtual therapy to moms throughout the South Bay, including Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, El Segundo, and the greater Los Angeles area.
The Invisible Load Is Real β And It's Heavy
Manhattan Beach moms carry a particular kind of pressure. There's an image to maintain, a standard to meet, a version of "having it all together" that feels non-negotiable. You're probably the Default Parent β the one who tracks the pediatrician appointments, researches the sleep consultants, manages the nap schedule, and still tries to show up for your partner, your work, and yourself.
That weight has a name: the Invisible Load. And when you add postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, or the identity earthquake that is new motherhood, that load can become crushing β even when, from the outside, everything looks fine.
You don't have to keep performing "fine."
Postpartum Depression and Anxiety in Manhattan Beach: What It Actually Looks Like
Postpartum depression and anxiety don't always look like what you've seen in the movies. It's not always crying on the bathroom floor (though sometimes it is). More often, it looks like:
Feeling numb, disconnected, or like you're going through the motions
Snapping at your partner over small things and immediately hating yourself for it
Lying awake at 2am even when the baby is asleep, because your brain won't stop
Googling your baby's symptoms obsessively because the worry never fully quiets
A creeping sense that everyone else figured out how to love this, and you're the only one struggling
Mom rage that comes out of nowhere and leaves you feeling ashamed
This is postpartum anxiety. This is postpartum depression. And it is treatable. You are not broken. You are a human being carrying an enormous amount, and your nervous system is telling you it needs support.
Prenatal Anxiety and Depression During Pregnancy in the South Bay
Not all perinatal mental health struggles start after birth. If you're currently pregnant and finding that anxiety, dread, or a low mood are shadowing the experience, you're not alone β and you don't have to wait until postpartum to get support.
Prenatal anxiety is extremely common. It can look like spiraling fears about birth, intrusive thoughts about something going wrong, or a general sense of unease that you can't quite explain. Prenatal depression can feel like flatness, disconnection from the pregnancy, or grief β sometimes without an obvious reason.
Therapy during pregnancy is one of the most proactive things you can do for yourself and your baby. We'll work through what's showing up now, build your coping toolkit before birth, and make sure you have a real postpartum plan β not just a hospital bag.
Who I Work With: Manhattan Beach Moms in the Thick of It
My clients are high-achieving, driven California moms who are used to performing well at everything β and who are quietly terrified that motherhood is the one area where they're falling short. They're often:
New moms in the first year postpartum who feel disconnected, depleted, or like they've lost themselves
Pregnant women navigating prenatal anxiety or depression and trying to prepare for what comes next
Moms of toddlers or young kids who realize the anxiety or the overwhelm never really went away β it just went underground
High-achieving women who held everything together through pregnancy and are now surprised to find themselves struggling
Moms dealing with relationship strain, the Default Parent dynamic, or the quiet resentment that builds when you're carrying more than your share
You don't have to be in crisis to deserve support. If something feels off, that's enough.
What Therapy Focuses On: More Than Just Symptom Management
This isn't surface-level coping. We go deeper than breathing exercises and self-care checklists (though yes, we'll make sure you're actually taking care of yourself too).
In our work together, we'll address:
Postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety β understanding what's happening in your nervous system, processing the grief and loss that often come with new motherhood, and building real relief that sticks.
The Invisible Load and Default Parent dynamics β naming the patterns that are draining you and figuring out what actually needs to change, not just what you can tolerate better.
The Perfectionism Tax β the cost you're paying for holding yourself to impossible standards, and how to put some of that down without your life falling apart.
Mom Rage β because the anger is real information, not something to be ashamed of. We'll figure out what it's pointing to and what to do with it.
Identity reclamation β who you are beyond "mom," and how to hold both without one erasing the other.
Why Virtual Therapy Is a Perfect Fit for Manhattan Beach Moms
Virtual therapy was practically designed for new moms. No commute, no parking, no arranging childcare just to sit in a waiting room. You can take your session from your couch, your car, or the one quiet room in your house during nap time.
All of my sessions are conducted via a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. I'm licensed throughout California, which means whether you're in Manhattan Beach, the broader South Bay, or anywhere else in the state, we can work together.
You don't have to drive anywhere to start feeling better.
How It Works:
I keep the logistics simple so you can focus on the actual therapy.
Free 10-minute vibe check: We'll talk about what's going on, I'll tell you how I work, and we'll both get a feel for whether this is the right fit. No obligation, no pressure.
First session: We go deeper. I'll ask about your history, your current experience, and what you actually want from therapy β not just what you think you're "supposed" to say.
Ongoing weekly sessions: 50-minute sessions, same time each week. Consistency matters in this work, and I hold your spot reliably.
Investment: $275 per session. Private pay only; superbills available for potential out-of-network reimbursement. This is an investment in your mental health, your relationship with your child, and your capacity to actually enjoy your life.
You Don't Have to Keep Feeling This Way
There's a version of motherhood where you don't dread the morning. Where you're not white-knuckling through the day. Where you actually feel present with your kid β not just physically there, but actually there. That version is available to you, and therapy is one of the paths to it.
If you're a mom in Manhattan Beach, the South Bay, or anywhere in California who is navigating postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, prenatal depression, or simply the overwhelming weight of the mental load β I'd love to talk.
Book your free 10-minute vibe check and let's see if we're a good fit. No pressure. Just a real conversation about what's going on and what support could look like.

Do you take insurance? I'm private pay only. My rate is $275 per session, and I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many PPO plans reimburse a significant portion of therapy costs.
What if I'm not sure I have postpartum depression? That uncertainty is completely normal β and it's not a reason to wait. If something feels off, that's enough to reach out. You don't need a formal diagnosis to deserve support.
Can we do therapy while my baby is in the room? Yes. Especially in the early weeks and months. We'll make it work with your reality, not an idealized version of it.
I'm pregnant β is it too early to start? Absolutely not. Starting therapy during pregnancy is one of the most powerful things you can do. We'll address prenatal anxiety or depression, build your coping toolkit, and create a real postpartum plan.
What areas do you serve? I'm licensed throughout California and see clients virtually across the state. I work with many moms in the South Bay area, including Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, El Segundo, Marina del Rey, Torrance, and greater Los Angeles. Book your free 10 minute vibe check! I canβt wait to support you during this season of Motherhood!
